The Nidek biometer and Zeiss IOL master are laser systems that accurately take measurements of each specific eye. These measurements are used in calculation software to calculate the correct lens to be implanted during a lens replacement procedure.
The OCT or Ocular Coherence Tomographer is an essential piece of equipment. The laser system gives a cross section of structures inside the eye and is mostly used to evaluate the macula or fine vision, as well as the optic nerve.
The Pentacam is a tomographer that is used to analyse the front of the eye, and more specifically the clear cornea. It is used to evaluate conditions like keratoconus, but is also essential for the planning of each and every lens replacement procedure.
The YAG laser is used to polish the implanted lens. In approximately a third of patients the membrane behind the lens becomes cloudy over time, and the YAG laser provides a once off, painless and permanent solution.
The Humphrey visual field analyser provides an accurate measurement of the peripheral visual field of the eye and is used to evaluate the damage caused by glaucoma and other conditions affecting the optic nerve.
